Why are enamel bowls useful as outdoor tableware?

Enamel bowls have been used for decades as camping essentials. Whether you were in the Girl Guides or Scouts, enamel dishware was a must have when collecting your badges. Minimal in design yet long lasting, these retro-style enamel coated bowls have had a renaissance in recent years for the luxe-loving campers. And for good reason too! These practical white enamelware dishes are 100% fit for purpose. Made of porcelain fused onto heavy-gauge steel, they are strong, long-lasting and ideal for being transported from adventure to adventure. Whatever the setting, these white enamel camping bowls with blue rims will ensure that you can dine in style. They are quite small and are great for pasta, soup, cereal or porridge when you are camping.

As these camping enamelware dishes are made from steel, they can be recycled once they have come to the end of their long, long life (don’t worry, the enamel coating does not impact its ability to be turned into scrap metal). By recycling the enamelware bowls, the steel will be repurposed into something else - most often, cans! The use of scrap steel saves up to 74% of the energy needed to make steel from virgin materials which is incredible and why we should all be trying to recycle as much as we can as well as use products made of recycled materials.

Enamel on steel is hard and strong but like all good ceramic materials, it may chip if handled roughly or dropped. If this happens, don’t panic. The enamel coated bowls are still perfectly safe to use as the steel will naturally oxidise. Plus, we think it adds a bit of vintage character anyway! We like to think of these enamel bowls as the Levi jeans or Chanel bags of the outdoor tableware world. Classic, reliable, long lasting and they just get better with age. We’ve got enamel cups ourselves which are still going strong after 20 years!

What contexts can I use these enamel bowls in?

These luxury outdoor bowls are perfect for anyone who wants to add a touch of aesthetic extravagance to their outdoor adventure. If you are a ‘picnic in the park’ sort of person, these bowls can be stacked and packed into your cool bag ready to serve a fresh fruit salad. If long camping trips and mountain adventures are your sort of thing, these bowls also fit the bill and are great for an evening refuel meal of pasta or a morning power up porridge.

Chimney Sheep HQ is based just on the edge of the Lake District. That means we are lucky enough to enjoy the benefits of the outdoors rather a lot and we love it! Lots of our colleagues love walking, camping, picnicking, and exploring. They have tested these enamelware bowls out and have given them a big thumbs up!

Have you got matching items to make enamel crockery sets and enamel tableware sets?

Yes, we do! Our Classic Set is a full range of enamel dishware. To match this enamel bowl set, we have an enamel plate set, enamel camping mugs, enamel tea cans and enamel espresso mug. You can mix and match all of these to create your ultimate luxury enamel dinner set for the outdoors.

Why have you created enamel tableware when you already have recycled plastic tableware?

Although we stock a fantastic range of recycled plastic outdoor tableware some people just don’t want to use plastic anymore due to concerns over where our plastic recycling goes. This, of course, is completely valid which is exactly why we have added our Classic Set of enamel tableware to our selection of outdoor tableware.

Our enamel plates and bowls are much stronger than our recycled plastic alternatives which ensures that they last throughout all your camping and travel adventures for years and years. In the context of single use plates, enamel plates are a more sustainable alternative, reducing the use and disposal of many sets of paper and plastic dishes. Although a little more expensive upfront, just think about cost per use!

Our enamel cereal bowls from our Classic Set are also a bit weightier and feel a bit more ‘special’. There are some contexts when recycled plastic tableware just doesn’t fit the bill. Some people don’t really like the ‘taste’ of eating hot food from plastic plates, so these enamel camping bowls are a great alternative.

Sometimes plastic (recycled or not) isn’t the right material to use for certain uses.  For example, cooking on gas stoves whilst camping can cause difficulties when using plastic camping gear. These enamelware small bowls can withstand temperatures of up to 270 degrees Celsius so can not only be used when camping but on BBQ racks too. This means that unlike the plastic alternatives, our enamel bowls can be used for heating and serving (less washing up – hooray!). We quite like using our enamelware bowl as a mini saucepan and match it with our enamel plate which we use as a lid to make the heating process faster.

It doesn’t stop leaks from the pee pad.
Size: X-Large: 28" x 34"
I’m trying to figure out how not to have leaks occasionally. I’m going to call the company to see if there’s something I should be doing.

Training pad holder literally rises above the competition
Size: 24"X24"
We have been through a variety of potty pad products during our housetraining journey with our Havanese pup. The Petphabet training pad holder has been the best by far and has ended our search for a number of reasons: Pros: 1. Grid design keeps puppy from chewing/tearing/destroying/eating the potty pad. 2. Size is perfect for our pup even as he is getting bigger (15 lbs) - mileage may vary for larger pups/dogs. 3. HERE IS THE REASON THIS PAD HOLDER STANDS OUT AMONG THE COMPETITION - The top grid is elevated off the surface layer where the pad lays, which allows an air gap between the standing surface and the potty pad. This allows the urine to fall to the pad without pooling and without your pup stepping in it and tracking it everywhere! Cons/Areas for improvement: 1. We like blue but it's not for everyone! 2. The "posts" holding the mesh up from the base carry all of the weight of the dog and in some cases jumping or playing on the pad holder can cause the edges of the posts to cut through the potty pad liner, causing a (minor) leak. I would recommend the manufacturer design any subsequent models with larger, flat surfaces on the post supports. 3. The 4 piece design means the base is not solid but has a split down the middle that is not waterproof. This can be remedied by caulking the 2 sides of the base together with clear silicone assuming you will no longer need to disassemble the unit. 4. Poo can get caught in the grid if your pup has loose stool. If not removed quickly your pup may step on it and really pack it in there. After many trials with other products, we are very happy with this training pad holder and have bought a total of 3 units for different areas of our house. I highly recommend for small dogs/pups!

Works Great!!!
Size: 18"X24"
I have 2 pugs and have trained them to "go" on a grid. I started with another brand (Klean Paws) but found this brand (Petphabet Puppy Training Pad Holder) to be superior in several ways. This training pad holder is designed much better. The plastic grid is well supported so the puppy does not get wet paws when waling on the grid. The overall design of the training pad holder makes it very easy to replace training pads. Standard training pads (17.5" x 23.5") fit the medium Petaphet puppy training pad holder perfectly. Just lay the pads flat on the bottom, place the grid on top and clip it all into place with the frame. The frame holds everything in place and keeps any loose ends, hidden from mischievous puppies. It takes a lot of effort to train puppies to "go" on a grid, but it's worth it. I started with one grid in a crate. Then, I gaited off my kitchen area, with 4 medium grids (as shown in the video). You cannot expect a puppy or dog to just go to one spot and do their thing. Dogs like to sniff and walk around before they "go." They need room. I suggest 2 medium girds per medium-sized dog. I have 2 pugs and 4 grids. I reward them with a pinch of peanut butter, whenever I see them go on the grid. I simply pickup the #2 with TP and flush it down the toilet. I replace the pads, in the 4 grids, once a day. NOTE: The sellers of the dog training pad holders seem to come and go. If you cannot find this particular training pad holder, do a search for Mesh training pad holder. Be sure to get a training pad holder that has 3 parts -- the bottom tray, the mesh grid, and a frame that holds it all together. Some of the simpler grids have just 2 parts (bottom tray and top). They are simpler, but do NOT keep paws dry.
