Piemonte is onder wijnliefhebbers met name bekend om wijnen van de nebbiolo-druif uit de regio Alba, waaronder Barolo en Barbaresco, en wijnen van de barbera-druif uit de regio Asti en Monferrato. Maar Piemonte is met ruim 25.000 km2 een grote regio met een gevarieerd bergachtig en heuvelachtig landschap en herbergt vanwege de grote verscheidenheid aan terroirs een legio aan mogelijkheden om hoge kwaliteiten wijn voort te brengen.
Een van die topterroirs is het nog redelijk onbekende Colli Tortonesi in het zuidoostelijk deel van Piemonte, zo’n 80 km ten noorden van Genua en 15 km ten oosten van de stad Tortona.

Volpi
Carlo Volpi, 5e generatie wijnmaker van de familie, kocht hier bijna 20 jaar geleden 5 hectare verlaten wijngaard met 60 en 70 jaar oude barbera druivenstokken. Na een zorgvuldige restauratie heeft hij bijna 80% van de originele wijnstokken kunnen behouden, waardoor de kwaliteit en de typische kenmerken van deze historische wijngaard behouden zijn gebleven. Door volledig biologisch te werken wordt de biodiversiteit gewaarborgd en is het een hele fijne plek om te vertoeven. De wijngaard ligt op zo’n 250 tot 300 meter hoogte en geeft een fantastisch uitzicht over de Colli Tortonesi.Β 
Ondertussen heeft Marco Volpi, de 6e generatie, het stokje overgenomen.

A must read for public executives

Concise, focused, and full of real-world point and counterpoints, I found this to be more of an essential piece of oratory combat equipment than a book. As a non-lawyer working in public service, this book provides excellent points on interpretation, form versus substance, and the importance of observation and evidence – all skills needed to protect the public interest. As someone who monitors contracts in the public sector, many of my peers could benefit from this book and better design contracts to the advantage of their public entity. Incidentally, I was also involved in a heated discussion about data interpretation the same week I was reading this book, and was able to calmly defend and dominate the discussion until my opponent acquiesced. More important than dominating your opponent is the theme throughout this book that one’s argument must be genuine, and the logic tight. Additionally, as Prof. Trachtman reminds readers that these skills, like a weapon, should only be used for good. A great read!
