Geen vis is zo bijzonder als een karper. Ze zijn er in vele soorten én maten; soms groeien ze uit tot enorme proporties. Niet één karper is gelijk en daarin zit een groot deel van de fascinatie. Deze vis onderscheidt zich van iedere andere vissoort ter wereld. Elke karper heeft een uniek schubben-patroon, een karakteristieke bouw en ja, ook een eigen karakter. Elke vis is van hetzelfde ras en toch is elk exemplaar een individu.

Wie ooit een karper vangt, vergeet dat nooit meer. De kans is groot dat je voor de rest van je leven besmet raakt met dit onalledaagse virus. Geen andere visser is vergelijkbaar met een karpervisser. Zijn 'hobby' is niet louter het vangen van een visje, maar verwordt maar al te vaak tot een hoofdreden van bestaan. Een passie of zelfs obsessie... Ook al vist men niet, de karper zwemt in het hoofd alsmaar door. Ook elke karpervisser is van hetzelfde ras en toch is ieder exemplaar een ander individu.
