Introducing the Gibson Custom Kirk Hammett 1979 Flying V, a guitar that's as iconic as it is rare. Limited to only 200, these special V's were constructed in Nashville, Tennessee by the wizards at the Gibson Custom Shop.
Hammett's famous Flying V was his first Gibson, catapulting him into a love affair with Gibson guitars, and setting the stage for the undeniable sound he would produce as lead guitarist of Metallica. His '79 V made it on all the early Metallica albums, arguably making it one of the most influential guitars in heavy metal history. And let's not forget the present, as Kirk still plays that guitar to this day.
Crafted with a one-piece mahogany body and three-piece mahogany neck that sports a volute, this guitar is carefully Murphy Aged to precisely match the original. The neck features a Kirk Hammett V profile, and the 12" radius fingerboard is made of one-piece Indian rosewood with Pearloid dot inlays. All the painstakingly detailed specs make this guitar a pleasure to play, and offer a fully accessible range of notes that will satisfy even the most demanding shredder. And as a demanding shredder, you shouldn't have to think twice about tuning. The custom replica bridge with a heavy chrome stop bar tailpiece, Corian nut and Schaller M6 tuning machines ensure that the guitar stays in tune and intonates perfectly, no matter how hot 'n heavy you need to riff.
But what really sets this guitar apart are the stunning dual T-Type humbuckers. Made with Alnico 5 magnets, polysol wire, and left unpotted, they are designed to replicate the coveted T-Tops of the 60's and 70's. These pickups deliver the kind of sound that metal fans crave: powerful, clear, and with enough bite and distortion capability to tear the paint off the walls.
Finished with a gloss nitrocellulose lacquer in ebony and factory aged by the industry's finest, this limited edition guitar is a true master work of art. It comes with a SKB Flying V hardshell case, so you can transport it safely to gigs or store it securely in your gear vault. For fans of Metallica, heavy metal guitars, or simply guitar lovers looking for the perfect-playing and sounding pointy axe, the Gibson Custom Kirk Hammett 1979 Flying V is here for you - a true testament to guitar history.
